Foreign Affairs and the Council on Foreign Relations are looking for an experienced PHP developer to extend the capabilities of ForeignAffairs.com, the Web site of the bimonthly magazine Foreign Affairs, the premier journal in its field. If hired, you will join a team of ten other Web professionals who together make up a dedicated Web group within CFR. Day-to-day, you will report to the lead Web producer for Foreign Affairs and work closely the magazine's circulation, advertising, and editorial groups. Candidates with experience working on media and/or ecommerce sites backed by the Drupal content management system are strongly preferred.

The responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Coordinating closely with outside developers at the magazine's fulfillment vendor and using APIs to access customer databases.
  • Guided by A/B testing, creating customer workflows designed to increase visitor conversions.
  • Improving paywall flexibility and creating mechanisms for rapidly testing new products.
  • Enhancing syndication feeds for exchanging content with partner sites.
    Developing a new storefront for merchandising an expanded set of product offerings.
  • Enhancing the back-end ad-serving software to enable a greater variety of advertising strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience as a Web developer in LAMP environments.
  • Experience in Drupal module development or related Drupal activities highly preferred.
  • Experience working on paid content or other ecommerce sites preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Mastery of standards-based Web technologies; understanding of the open-source software milieu.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate with non-technical professionals outside the Web department.
  • Demonstrated interest in and dedication to learning about innovation on the Intranet; for example through github repositories, blogging, etc.
