These two companion volumes resume the series interrupted by the war (the war years are being covered in a special series, mentioned below). The present survey takes up the story after the conclusion of the peace treaties with the minor Powers and with the announcement of the Truman Doctrine. Though primarily concerned with the congealing of the cold war, it also includes sections on the Far East, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the United Nations. The volume of documents is, as always, a valuable reference work.
