Land without Justice
This book, like "The New Class," was written after Djilas' fall from grace in Jugoslavia in 1954. Dealing only occasionally or inferentially with his more recent career, it is an absorbing account of his childhood and youth in Montenegro, a poor, proud and violent land. Extraordinarily perceptive, it may well prove to be one of the most illuminating autobiographies to emerge from Eastern Europe.
