The Soviet Citizen
This volume, one of Harvard's Russian Research Center Studies, presents and interprets the main body of statistical data from the extensive Harvard Project on the Soviet Social System. The first three chapters deal at length, and interestingly, with the methodology of the project: how the data was collected from the refugees, the question of bias in the sample, the processing of the answers, etc. The rest of the book deals with the substantive findings: the round of daily living, the individual and the state, sources of cleavage within the society, and the possible future trends. An important work.
