From the Morgenthau Diaries: Years of Crisis, 1928-1938
This is the first of two volumes of a political biography, based on the extensive Morgenthau diaries. The model for the work was the Stimson-Bundy collaboration in "On Active Service in Peace and War." The book is a major contribution to the history of the New Deal years, especially in its wealth of material on financial and economic policy, though it lacks some of the garrulousness and gossip of the Ickes diary.
