Austro-German Relations in the Anschluss Era

A scholarly examination, based largely on new material, of the nature and impact of German rule on Austria, particularly on its economy and sense of identity. The authors suggest that the Anschluss unwittingly hastened the modernization of Austria and promoted a sense of cohesion which bolstered the present Republic.
