The New American Ideology

Reviewed by Gaddis Smith

A serious speculation concerning a supposed trend toward community values and organization in the place of individualism, competition, the profit motive. The book suggests a sophisticated version of Charles Reich's The Greening of America (1970). The infatuation with the ephemera of youth culture is absent, but the confident optimism is the same. Last sentence: "This time we can have the choice for glory, if we will but be aware."
