The assumption guiding this study is that the proud, 200-year-old Corps must develop a new mission in a post-Vietnam age when future U.S. military interventions-especially with amphibious landings on beaches-are a shrinking prospect. The authors produce imaginative and provocative suggestions for restructuring the mission and the forces of the Corps.
