Robert Campbell's is the most authoritative Western analysis of Soviet experience since 1965, with succinct interpretations of detailed data. Canada, China, the Gulf States, Iran and Venezuela are covered by separate authors in the Mangone volume. The late John Blair's book reflects the more than 30 years he spent in the U.S. government investigating the oil industry and trying to find ways to make it competitive.
