Domestic Political Realities and European Unification; Decision Making in the European Community

Reviewed by Edward L. Morse

These two volumes focus on different aspects of the current political paralysis in the Community. Feld and Wildgen analyze survey data on mass public and elite attitudes toward European unification and the current "politics of rejection." Sasse and his colleagues come to similar conclusions based on case studies of Community decision-making, but they imply that reforms in Commission procedures and in the European Parliament can create greater legitimacy and authority for European institutions.
