Inglehart's rich and graceful analysis documents the shift from material to quality-of-life values in the 1960s and 1970s. Although the revolution may be neither silent nor as permanent as Inglehart contends, it surely is a major factor in contemporary Western societies. However debatable some of its conclusions, the book is masterfully written and demonstrates that political science can be scientific, relevant and free of arcane jargon.
