China and the Major Powers in East Asia
A very timely study of China's relations with the Soviet Union, the United States and Japan. Barnett foresees "no sudden drastic change" in the four-power equilibrium in East Asia because none of the four will have a realistic basis for trying to achieve regional hegemony. A limited détente between Moscow and Peking, he argues, would alter the existing pattern only "marginally."
