This is the most complete and thoughtful analysis yet made of the Allende and Frei Administrations. The reader is further rewarded by meditations upon related themes, such as the relation of equity to liberty. Sigmund concludes that Allende moved, not too slowly as the Left believes, but too rapidly in pursuit of "irreversible" changes. "The result was to reverse the advances that had been made for the last thirty years. . . ."
