Building on his earlier studies of Israel and Israeli-American relations, Nadav Safran now gives us a massive comprehensive work which covers both subjects and shows convincingly how Israel's history and politics have affected the tie with the U.S. Much of the book covers the same ground as Quandt's, with the same detachment but from a different angle. A book that combines scholarship (though eschewing footnotes) with a keen sense of the realities of contemporary politics and diplomacy.
