The object of this small volume, originally delivered as a set of lectures, is to reexamine some of the central historical and ethical issues raised by the Nazis' mass murder of the Jews, and to dispel the myths and legends (even outright falsifications) that have come to veil that harsh reality. Bauer is head of the Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University, and he writes with authority and passion.
