Britain: A Future That Works
Nossiter, The Washington Post's correspondent in London, takes on the pundits who diagnose Britain's condition as illness leading to imminent demise. On the contrary, he argues, despite some very real problems, Britain is "healthy, democratic, productive, as stable a society as any of its size in Europe." Making the choice of leisure over goods, and moving toward an economy based more on services and the arts than on manufacturing, she may in fact be a model of sorts for post-industrial societies.
