Three admirable chapters parse the arguments of the dependencia critics of multinational enterprises and those of the analysts of the "neoconventional" school (Raymond Vernon, et al.) to see where they actually contradict each other. The effort to evaluate the contending propositions by studying four industries in Nigeria, though painstakingly done, is something of a letdown.
