Communism and Political Systems in Western Europe

Should we interpret Eurocommunism as an instrument of Moscow or as a cluster of independent Marxists evolving into left-wing social democrats? Neither, say the authors of this volume of essays, for study of the individual parties, each treated in the political context in which it operates, shows the situation to be far more complex than either interpretation would admit. Scholarly and judicious in approach, but, given the recent spate of books on the subject, no longer particularly novel.
