This is not a systematic treatment of the post-Stalin years, since the domestic and international topics chosen vary with the expertise and tastes of the contributors. These thoughtful essays, nevertheless, raise and intelligently discuss most of the major issues (continuity vs. change, de-Stalinization, economic reform, regional development, Eastern Europe, and policy toward the West) with which Stalin's successors have had to contend.
