Continuing the detailed examination of the political role of the Argentine military that was begun in the author's earlier volume covering the years 1928-45-from Yrigoyen to Peron-this excellent study provides extensive analysis of the succeeding period. The fall of Arturo Frondizi bore eloquent witness to the enormous chasm separating Peronist from anti-Peronist, the too-feeble democratic impulses that had undergirded the uprising in 1955, and the general disillusionment with the democratic process.
