Reflections of a Hungarian intellectual on capitalism, socialism and democracy in Eastern Europe. Much concerned with matters of definition and sometimes tedious for the non-Marxist reader, these essays written at various times in the 1970s nevertheless make it plain why the author was expelled from the Party. They also reflect the ferment among members of the East European intelligentsia since the Prague Spring.
