The Political Economy of Income Distribution in Nigeria
In Nigeria, income distribution has stirred political passions chiefly when the relative shares of regions, states or communities were affected; only when oil no longer holds out the promise of economic mobility are gaps between individuals or classes likely to become a highly charged issue for the mostly very poor people of Africa's oil giant. In this study, a group of Nigerian and American social scientists carefully analyze the existing inequalities from a variety of perspectives, and offer remedies for what they see as an increasingly grave problem.
