Un Seul Lit pour Deux Rêves: Histoire de la "Détente", 1962-1981
The noted editor of Le Monde has written a worthy sequel to his earlier history of the cold war. His eye is always on the contest of the two giants, but in the process of describing it he gives a balanced and fact-filled history of world affairs, North-South as well as East-West. Americans in particular should read this book, because it is informed and perceptive from a viewpoint not their own. The title comes from Chou En-lai's remark that the two superpowers sleep in the same bed but do not have the same dreams.
