Islamic resurgence, the subject of much careless generalization, is here wisely broken down into separate studies in which experts concentrate on Islam in the politics of individual countries. The overwhelming impression one gets is of differences and variety, despite the undoubted turn everywhere to Islam for the language of politics and as a source of political action in many instances. Iran is no model, and Khomeini is no universally accepted prophet.
