Stalinism: Its Impact on Russia and the World
Interviews with a dozen individuals who had occasion to have an extensive, profound, or perhaps unique knowledge of Stalin or of Stalinism. They make up an unlikely group: a Russian (former secretary to Stalin), a Pole, an Austrian, a Chinese, a Yugoslav (Djilas), two American diplomats (Harriman and Kennan), and a number of Western scholars. They all have interesting, if not always strictly relevant, things to say, and Urban is a skillful interviewer who makes substantial contributions of his own to the dialogue.
