An illustrious diplomat takes up his pen to comment on world politics since World War II. Much of it, surprisingly perhaps, is standard stuff, though with occasional flashes of Eban's wit and eloquence. He says the expected about American and Soviet policies, security and arms control, and about Europe and the Middle East, but on the U.N. and on the changing character of diplomacy, which has occupied so much of his own career, his gifts of understanding, criticism and exposition are readily apparent.
