This is an excellent collection of essays, reflecting a wide range of viewpoint and opinion, which should be read alongside the report of the Kissinger Commission. It includes a number of aspects deliberately skirted by that commission, notably the implications of possible U.S. military intervention. And several authors both stress and explore at length the possibilities of negotiation-on which the formulae proposed by the Kissinger Commission seem to this observer too pat (and rigid) for reality. The essays by Viron Vaky and the two by the editor are particularly outstanding.
