Several authors in separate essays identify and advocate variations on the policy of containment: selective, moderate, extended, dynamic, etc. Mr. Wildavsky prefers "maximal" containment which is global in scope and includes measures to bring about "pluralization" within the Soviet Union as a means of "weakening its aggressive intent."
