Security in Southern Asia; Asian Perspectives on International Security

The first book, sponsored by the International Institute of Strategic Studies, contains an admirable overview of the sources of conflict in Southwest Asia by Khalilzad, and three equally impressive contributions on India's relations with China, the Soviet Union and the United States. The second volume, also of consistently high quality, evolved out of a conference organized by the Strategic and Defense Studies Centre at the Australian National University. Most of the essays are written by Asians, and the book is intended to convey a picture of how Asians view their own security dilemmas. In this respect, it is eminently successful.
