Error and Betrayal in Lebanon
Reviewed by John C. Campbell
Outspoken as usual, George Ball reviews the Lebanon imbroglio of 1982-83 and U.S.-Israeli relations in terms which concede only the barest minimum of honor and wisdom to those in charge. To underline his plea for new U.S. policies in the Middle East which will serve American interests and not just those of the government of Israel, he appends to his narrative a detailed list of "errors and betrayals" which have produced bitter fruit for all concerned. Bluntly stated or overstated as they may be, these are home truths which deserve attention in Washington, although there seems little chance they will get it.
