The first part of this annual survey, substantially (although not entirely) the product of the Shiloah Center in Tel Aviv, gives a comprehensive account of the year's developments in the Middle East with additional essays on specialized subjects. The second part is a country-by-country survey of each of the Middle East states. This annual, which began with the year 1976-77, has by now become an essential resource on the Middle East for scholars and journalists.

The Dollar and the Deficits

The global economic crisis has revealed the folly of large U.S. budget and trade deficits, as well as of the strong dollar that makes them possible. If it is serious about recovery, the United States must balance the budget, stimulate private saving, and embrace a declining dollar.
