Interpreting Mexican public life in part through the personal qualities of the top political leaders, the author explores the backgrounds, families, friends, schools, studies and values of numerous prominent office holders between 1946 and 1970. Interviews and documentary sources were employed, and the conclusions bear upon the future as well as the present.
