Cuba's International Relations: The Anatomy of a Nationalistic Foreign Policy
The main factors determining Cuban policy since 1959-the quest for military and economic security, ideology, aspirations for Third World leadership, a sense of mission, and nationalism-are analyzed within a framework of six time-periods, leading up to the "contemporary globalism" now current. The prognosis: mere tactical shifts in the present goals and strategies rather than major changes, and concentration on the western hemisphere and relations with the United States.
