A series of lectures on the state of things in the Soviet Union and prospects for the future at this time of the long-awaited generational change in leadership. Much of the material is elementary exposition, but the authors and editors are experienced Russia-watchers (they include, for example, George Breslauer, Gail Lapidus, Timothy Colton and Marie Lavigne) whose assembled facts and considered views present a generally accurate, balanced, but by no means monotone picture.
