Breaking the Silence

The story of Eduard Schulte, the German industrialist who, at great risk, supplied the United States with important intelligence during World War II and who apparently was the first to inform the outside world of the existence of extermination camps. American bureaucracy did little with the information and after the war rewarded an authentic hero by not clearing him for a major post in the military government. A moving story, told in whimsical detail rather than placed more carefully in a larger historical context.
