It is conceivable, the author contends, that liberation theology is the initial phase of a shift in the history of Christianity that will be comparable to the Reformation; each a movement whose fate is bound up with the emergence on the world stage of those who have been excluded. "People do not simply happen to be poor; their poverty is largely a product of the way society is organized."
