The Prague Spring: A Mixed Legacy

It is timely to recall the events of 1968 in Czechoslovakia, not just to mark the 20th anniversary but because of recent developments in the U.S.S.R. itself, as Gorbachev seeks a socialism with something resembling a human face. The brief essays in this book, some by leading actors in the Prague Spring, represent the personal reflections of the individual authors on those and later events. Although organized around no central theme, the varied contributions attest to the legacy of the ideas of 1968 and also to the persistence of Czechoslovak traditions and culture.
