In part this volume presents Uganda as a stage for discussing a nightmare version of problems besetting many of its neighbors as well. But the roots of Uganda's peculiar political pathology are also explored-most tellingly by Christine Obbo's account of the rural ethnic origins, going back to the colonial period, of the country's endemic political and social violence.
