America's Global Interests: A New Agenda
These papers by senior and well-known figures from the academic and government worlds, ranging ideologically from the center to the right, were prepared for an American Assembly conference last fall. They are emblematic of the widespread but still poorly focused effort throughout the United States to recognize and define new issues and opportunities for American foreign policy in a world being rearranged by Gorbachev's initiatives and other forces. The emphasis is primarily on economic rather than military challenges. Attention to environmental issues is thin and ritualistic.
