Soviet Freedom: New Perspectives On Gorbachev

This is a book on Gorbachev's Russia like no other, a mélange of facts, anecdotes, impressions, personal opinions, conversations and some (strained) comparisons between the U.S.S.R. and Britain. Barnett is a leftist British journalist and editor reporting on his first visit to the Soviet Union. The style is jaunty, the observations vivid, the philosophizing somewhat pretentious but not without interest.
