This thoroughly researched study of Soviet-supported liberation movements in Angola, Zimbabwe and South Africa carefully argues the pros and cons regarding Soviet intentions and commitment. Predominantly historical in focus, and apparently mostly written prior to the Soviet foreign policy perestroika, the strong underlying theme of plus ça change dominates its overall assessment.
