Lucius D. Clay: An American Life
This solid biography by a scholar who has devoted decades to General Clay and German-American relations draws heavily on extensive recorded interviews with the subject and is thus close to autobiography. The General's strong, clear opinions, no-nonsense personality, and administrative talent are powerfully expressed. The chapters on Clay's role as business leader and political adviser to President Eisenhower are fresh and interesting, although they may exaggerate Clay's importance just a bit.
