The Aspen Strategy Group organized the conferences that produced the high-quality chapters of this book. The ostensible purpose of the editors is to extract lessons-diplomatic, political, strategic and economic-from the crisis and the war. Some authors do look for these lessons; others simply reflect on the events; all write intelligently. The concluding chapter is an excellent policy exercise. In addition a detailed chronology is provided, along with texts of pertinent U.N. resolutions. All in all, a very useful volume.
