Natural Causes: Essays in Ecological Marxism
Ecological Marxism may seem to be a contradiction in terms, given Marx's commitment to the conquest of nature and the sorry environmental record of real-world socialist societies. This book makes unconvincing suggestions for how to marry the interests of workers and the poor, who need economic growth, and environmentalists, who are opposed to it; it is equally unpersuasive in arguing that the former Soviet Union had better intentions than the West on environmental issues but just somehow got tripped up in the execution.
