Defence Under Thatcher

This trim, dry monograph is a remarkably good example of defense analysis: a close inspection of the interaction between domestic policy, bureaucratic politics and process, and international affairs. The particular conclusions -- among other things, that Thatcher, a formidable prime minister, did remarkably little to put her imprint on British defense policy -- are of interest, but so too is the model of clear questions, concise answers, and careful contemporary research.
