The author, one of the founders of the Social Revolutionary Party, was a member of the Kerensky Provisional Government. He gives here an authoritative inside story of the failure of that government. Blame for the Bolshevik triumph is assigned in large part to the tactics of the moderates, men like Miliukov and Kerensky, of whom Chernov is perhaps too critical. The book has been admirably abridged and translated by Philip Mosely.
