Miriam F. Elman is Associate Professor of Political Science at Arizona State University. Her research and teaching interests include the relationship between democracy, war, and peace; the Middle East; the Arab-Israeli conflict; and the connections between religion and politics. Professor Elman's International Security class uses many articles from Foreign Affairs, including Michael Herzog's "Can Hamas Be Tamed?", which considers whether participation in the political process is likely to moderate radical political groups.
