Foreign Affairs Academic Update Campaign 2008
Published by the Council on Foreign Relations

Dear Educator,

The May/June 2008 issue of Foreign Affairs asks the question: Is the American era over? Fareed Zakaria, the editor of Newsweek International, says no, arguing the rise of other powers is not necessarily a threat to America. Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations, however, anticipates a "nonpolar" era — a world order without much order at all. Other articles in this issue include former NSC official Steven Simon on the so-called success of the Iraq surge and Kenneth Roth on what to do after Guantánamo.

Also in this edition:

  • Inside the May/June 2008 issue
  • Faculty Spotlight — Miriam Elman, Associate Professor, Arizona State University

In a Foreign Affairs first, the Haass, Roth, and Simon articles are also available in audio formats and can be downloaded free of charge. Additionally, Managing Editor Gideon Rose discusses highlights from the issue in an audio interview.

Best,
James F. Hoge, Jr.
Editor
