Tribal Politics Harass Kenya
Summary --
Before the murder of Tom Mboya in July 1969, Kenya politicians could mute and obscure their country's tribal tensions. The tensions, of course, were always there, straining the fragile unity of the new country, but they did not pervade every side of political life. Personal rivalry counted; so did ideology. The assassination changed all that.

Tom Mboya: the Obama connection.
If it wasn't for Tom Mboya, Hillary Clinton would be the President of the United States. Tom Mboya provided a scholarship to Barack Obama Sr. That is how Obama Sr. met President Obama's mother in Hawaii. Barack Obama Sr. was the leading Finance advisor for Jomo Kenyatta but lost his position after writing a scholarly article that questioned Kenyatta's economic policy in technical but not personal detail. The publication was sponsored by Mboya.
The Odinga mentioned in the article is the father of Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Raila's father was the first Vice President of Kenya.
It was interesting that when President Obama was running in the Iowa Caucus Kenya was beset with election violence. President Obama's heritage by the way is Luo.
