You could also add the article by Stokes and Boix (2003) which moved back the starting date for counting the cases of the relationship between development and democratization. When you start in mid-19th century, Stokes and Boix show, one finds that there was an indeed positive relationship between development and democracy. It's always important to keep in mind the data set one is assessing because after all, it is not always clear what counts as democracy.
