What is problem with Pakistan
Mr Stephen Cohen has had an entire career, promoting the cause of Pakistani Army vis a vis India.
Mr Cohen never misses any opportunity to suggest Kashmir as the key to all problems in Pakistan, and a justification for Pakistan's support for the terrorists. In all his arguments, his hidden desire for India ceding Kashmir is apparent.
It is however interesting to see him cornered in the whole discussion except once when he came back to his true form and commented, quote - “What if they stop their ties to jihadi organizations that affect us but not to those that are pointed at India? Is this our problem or India’s? And is al Qaeda a jihadi organization?” - unquote.
He is absolutely on dot, the Americans have do decide if they can do away with the Jihadi terrorist threats to the world, and usher in an era of peace & security, while India continues to be a victim of Pakistan supported terror.

Before i write further in detail i would make it clear that i am a Pakistani but very much clear that "might is always right" in this World and what we discuss does not make any difference un till one has own interest in it whether it be a country or a person. You see when people marched all over the World against invasion of Iraq, US and podle UK did it with helding every "TOM,DICK and HARRY". So the might is always right.
Our first problem is that we are neighbors of a hostile group since inception. Since the Indians were blue eyed to Britishers, they had the right to occupy Kashmir and as well disturb a settled framework/rules of partition including handing over majority muslim states to India. Go in detail and check that our problems started from very inception. I think Mr. Stephen has in depth knowledge that is why he stresses on Kashmir issue very rightly and should satisfy Mr. Nilanjan (last commentator) and it does not matter if he keep his eyes close along side mind.
In the next phase US comes on scene to create problems for our nation. Right from Buda Bheer (Peshawar) spy planes and then so on.
Thirdly we could not get good rulers. He/she who ruled us in past years, ruled to enhance his/her personal wealth and the wealth of relatives and friends.
These are our problems. First two are related to outside and third one though internal but indirectly from outside too.
So if one is really sincere look beyond vested interests and you can get success to the Pakistanis and to the World at large. Leave biasedness and consider realities. Do not fail us or world will fail.

What is the problem with Pakistan
The problem with any objective discussion or analysis on Pakistan is that it is dominated by people who take a maclicious view of this country like Prof Ganguly who simply can not hide his hatred for Pakistan. His most important comment is the following, " Pakistan preferably should sit down and discuss her legitimate defence requiremnets with India." Well this is exactly the real intent of foreign policy goals of the Indian State.
The other problem is the self proclaimed experts on Pakistan. Most of these people do not know anything about the objective realities of the country. The imposition of Nizam-e-Adal does not tantamount to imposition of Sharia. And by the way according to the Pakistani Constitution no law can be applied in Pakistan which is repugnant to the basic injunctions of Quran and Sunnah.
There is a histrory behind Swat. Swat was princely state until 1974 when it was mergen into Pakistan. Before its merger with Pakistan, they had their own Qazi corts that dispensed speedy justice and the British Law as inherited by Pakistan was alien to them. Law & Order deteriorated to this extent within one year that from only ten murders in one year the number ncreased to 170. There were no lawyers and people resented this change.
During the Government of Benazir this Nizam -e-Adal was imposed but the GOP backed down.
I am surprized to learn that people are so ignorant that they are not aware that Sufi Muhammad has nothing to do with Taliban. He had in fact totally disarmed the whole population in Swat. And you will apprecaite that Awami National Party is hard core leftist party which is ruling the NWFP province in coalition with PPP.
If Mr Zardari will not sign the Nizam-e-Adal bill, then of course Swat will plunge back into a killing field where India can have a field day like Baluchistan.
As for the comment from one expert that Pakistan should forget to be treated like an equal with India because india is a bigger country and super power, well Sir, the should apply to India viz-a- viz China. I enjoyed reading the comment from my Indian friend about Dr Cohen. The problem with India is that when they under presuure in Kashmir, they are very open to talk about it. The moment they get a respite, they become arrogant.
Kashmiris do nt need any help from Dr Cohen or from Pakistan . They will get independence from India. If you do not know how, then read some Gandhi Ji or Quad-e-Azam material!

Pakistan creation altered the course of history. It was instrumental to the eventual destruction of the Evil soviet Empire...How much Dollar value can you assign to that ..Even a Trillion would not be enough...Do you think in the absence of Pakistan (if it had not been created) the British India ruled by Indiand and neighboring Iran would have done anything after Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979...mAy be Iran might have but without copoperating with the West but certainly not India which was a Soviet ally.
Which Non Christian country in the entire world took a Nuclear attach threat from the Soviets in favor of the U.S...No one except Pakistan...In 1964 when Soviets threatened to wipe out Peshawar from the World Map b/c of American U2 Spy missions over Soviet territory that were flown from Bedaber a Pak air Force base near Peshawar.

So its not Pakistan thats the problem...its how its innocent and naive enough to be used so brutally by foreign powers .................however all is not bad...The west and US had done a great favor to Pakistan in Dec 1971 when US intervened along with China to keep the Soviets and Indians away from west Pakistan...............however that came after 6 yearts of US sanctions...the very reason Pak Military diod not have modern weaponary to fight off India at that time.
Any way Pakistan still wishes well to Christians and Jews (the west)...after all we all belivers of the same God. We were with you aginst the godless Soviet Union and we are with you again against the AL qaeda and Taliban....................but for God's sake....don;t forget how US was involved all the way in what happened in this region and act responsibly.
Pakistan wishes well to Israel too....The quran mentions many times the Land of the Covenant and one verse gives credence to the fact that the Jewish nation's claim to the Land of the Covenant would be realized and hints to Musilms that you would loose wars to them if you fight against them for land of Covenant.....especially when they get help from God and help from men (an apparent referal to the UN support for israel's creation)......................however its hard to understand why Israel deems it necessary to help iNdia and try to break the Pakistan's nuclear deterrent by arming them with Phalcons and AMD Systems.....Its shocking...Any way Pakistan still respects the Jewish nation and believes that ultimately they would disuade theselves from being so close to India (against Pakistan)
Let peace prevail on this planet and for God's sake instead of blaming each other lets take responsibility for all every one has done and try to resolve problems collectively.
One solution that comes to mind against War on al qaeda is that all arab countries whose nationals form al qaeda i afghanistan and waziristan should contribute financially and also send commando and elite trops to fight Al qaeda in afghanistan under NATO control and in waziristan under Pak Military supervison.....This would showe to al qaeda that the entire Muslim world is at war with them and not just Pakistan.

Pakistan has existential crises that come from a serious identity-problem. The Indians suffer from a similar problem in large numbers because of being unable to be a Hindu image of the "ideal" Islamic Pakistan. Many are trying to compensate those losses with a "christian" India!
Apart from sharing from a common phenomenon that arises from the colonial experience: a juvenile mindset that needs parental care and guidance. The absence of that and the sense of being jointly cuckolded by their foster parents (any developed state that is "western" would do) - makes for a nice game of mud-pie gone wrong, for they are states. If anyone ever wrote a book on games states/nations play - South Asia takes the section on the mud-pie game (with none willing to take the role of the girl - even in remotest imagination and have societies that looks at overt expositions of male virility - boorish and gender-violent society - as some compensation for not being able to afford baccahnalian hotspots that should have been the ideal outlet for such sense of "masculine" virility. Movies and crime - including movie-inspired ones can not really be considered the acceptable James Dean behaviour for states and nations!). That catches the sentiment of "spirit is willing-flesh is weak" syndrome that such tendencies and behaviour signify.
The absence of parental guidance has them go more the James Dean way. And they hold nuclear weapons.
Rest come as compensatory packages with Pakistan trying to show the seasoned juvenile delinquent's street smartness here. But then delinquent! Wonder if that impresses their significant 'other' (it is almost like that) - the Cheshire grin parents!

For America, the Problem is Pakistan
We will need to remind ourselves often in the next few years that the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan is not the Obama administration's fault. It inherited from George W. Bush a crisis so deep and so horribly complex that dealing with it would tax the powers of St Peter, let alone a US government with many other things on its mind and on its grossly overstrained budget. Improving the situation is the best that we can hope for. Finding a "solution" to the Afghan war and its repercussions in Pakistan is not even a possibility.
